8.  In cases where one or both parties to an intended marriage are less than 19 years of age, special permission of the diocesan chancery is required, and no date for such a wedding can be set until such permission has been granted.

Additional Requirements for Marriage

1.  Completion of the FOCCUS inventory is a first step in marriage prepartion.

  • Topic areas encompass a holistic view of their relationship, family, friends, and life choices.
  • Review of the inventory results may involve several meetings of the couple and the pastor or a member of the pastoral team.
  • These meetings may include instructions on basic Catholic teachings and the sacrament of marriage.

2.  Either Sponsor Couple or Engaged Enrichment.

  • Sponsor couple involves meetings of the engaged couple and a married couple, usually in the home of the married couple.  The two couples set the meeting times.  Generally five sessions are scheduled to complete the material in the resource book.
  • Engaged Enrichment is a weekend format (Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon) that provides an opportunity for couples to leave the distractions and pace of daily life and focus on one another and their relationship.  Weekends are scheduled three or four times a year.
  • Program cost: $150 per couple, room/board included.
